TGM are awesome. I really felt bad for them during the whole fracas shitstorm, because people held them responsible for firing Clarkson. But they do great things!

Cool story, thanks for sharing. There was an article in the Mazda magazine (Zoom Zoom I think it’s called?) a while back about a dude driving his NA to the North Pole primarily with the top down. Totally inspiring. I only put the top up on my NC when it’s over 95 degrees, parked, or pouring rain and the car really is perfectly capable in pretty much any situation.

Yeah, TGM’s often got great adventures. They also took an ND to the arctic circle in Alaska last year ( story ).
Very cool, especially in an NA! It’s a dream/plan of mine to take my MR2 to the North Cape in winter, so I’ll be trying to follow your example to prepare.
By the way, I’ve followed you for Oppo, so you’re out of the gray in the comments. If you want to become an author and write/share some stuff, you can ask the mods in one of the Club Openings posts.

Good deal, thank you!
I just came across a Mk3 MR2 in that bright yellow color a couple days ago. Guy had his top down with the windows up, but I gave him the thumbs-up anyway just because I don’t see many of those on the road anymore and the thing looked so good.

Haha, I’ve got to admit to driving with the windows up most times as well, as turbulence gets especially bad above 70-80 kph. Windows down feels more ‘free’ though, but I’m still adjusting to convertible life.

Once you get used to it, it’s like a drug. If there’s any way to get a small wind deflector behind the headrests, that cuts down on the wind in the cabin a lot, too.

There actually is a small deflector, and it is a lot more effective than its size would suggest. However, I have to sit as far back as possible (tall people problems), so I get a pleasant breeze through my hair top-down, windows-up, and a face full of wind top-down, windows-down. Smaller passengers, especially if they sit more forward, don’t really complain, as the windscreen does a great job shielding them.

Haha I know what you mean. I’m just average height, but when it’s really cold I slump way down in the seat.

For 1000$ round trip for Denmark with one car and one cabin, it’s really not bad at all...

Well, it’s manageable, but that $1000 is usually my total cost for European roadtrips, so it’s out of my reference frame.

Well, it would be a slightly more special of a trip too so ;)
I’d love to do it, but I’d also have to drive from Bretagne to Denmark, all the in a ‘91 Mini. Quite long and tiring lol (1800km total)

Certainly. The Mini would be very suitable for Iceland though, with their low speed limits and rally-stage gravel roads. Apparently Icelandair Cargo offers car shipping by plane from Liège to Keflavik, but something tells me that’s going to be a lot more expensive than the ferry.

Yeah, I’d rather not think of how much that would cost :)
And speed limits are low, but cops are not exactly present in a major portion of the island so there’s that :)
